Production Update: Casting Winds Down

We’ve been casting for months and it’s been truly inspiring. We kept meeting so many amazing, beautiful, people, and invariably each one of them would introduce us to two or three other amazing, beautiful people who were also perfect for the movie. Eventually, we decided to extend the casting process by a couple months, just so we didn’t miss anyone. It put us a little behind schedule, but the movie is going to be so much better for it.

We’ve got over fifty people on board now and we’re starting to wind down the search. We’re not closing the lid completely, though. There’s still a few gaps we’re trying to fill…

Big Ol’ Houses

Do you live in an big, funky old house in East Van? Would you be willing to let us shoot there? If so, you will be beloved by us and heralded as a hero.

Our absolute ideal is to find two houses side by side, or a duplex. But we don’t necessarily need the whole house to be in one place. For instance, if you a have a big communal kitchen we could shoot in, and someone else has a big living room, and someone else has an exterior, etc., then we can edit them together to make them look like one giant house.

We are also looking for a bunch of other locations (a meeting hall, an attic, etc.) so if you have a place that you think would be good, please let us know. Thanks!

Sousaphone/Tuba (Loan)

Like most movies, ours features an anarcho-dixieland-jazz marching band. We are desperately searching for a sousaphone (marching tuba) that we can borrow, rent or buy for very cheap. It doesn’t need to be fancy. It can be beaten up and half broken down, as long as it is marginally playable. Even a non-marching concert tuba would help a lot.

Marching Drums (Loan)

We’re looking for any and all kinds of marching drums, including a bass drum(s), multi-tenor drums, cymbals, etc. Or even just the harnesses without the drums would help.

Band Uniforms

Do you have an old marching band uniform in your closet? Or did you just see one in a little thrift store in Maple Ridge? If so, please let us know! They don’t have to be in great shape. We can always salvage the parts.

16mm Camera (Loan)

Obviously we don’t expect someone to loan us a fancy, fully functional production camera, but even a decrepit silent film camera would be of use to us. Do you have an old, hand-cranked 16mm film camera in your basement? Maybe your granddad gave you a dusty old camera with Russian writing on it and you’ve never had the time to see if it even works? That might be just what we’re looking for. Or, hey, if you have an dusty Eclair or Arri that you want to loan us, we’re not certainly opposed to using nice equipment.

Wheelchair (Loan)

We’re looking for a wheelchair to serve as a camera dolly. Ideally, we’d like to have the indoor/outdoor type (the kind with soft rubber tires), as opposed to a hosptial wheelchair (which often have hard plastic tires intended for linoleum floors), but we’ll take whatever we can get.
